2008년 NYT 베스트셀러 중 하나이기도 했던 Outlier라는 책의 주 골자는 한 분야에서 일가를 이루기 위해서는 최소한 1만 시간을 투자해야한다는 것이다. 그것도 그냥 work가 아닌 hard work로. 내가 지금껏 유일하게 1만 시간을 초과했고 일가를 이뤄낸 분야는 잠이로군화. 이제는 그 분야에서 정상의 자리를 내려놓고 싶은데 그게 마음대로 잘 안되네요. "In study after study, of composers, basketball players, fiction writers, ice-skaters, concert pianists, chess players, master criminals... this number comes up again and again. Ten thousand hours is equivalent to roughly three hours a day, or 20 hours a week, of practice over 10 years... No one has yet found a case in which true world-class expertise was accomplished in less time. It seems that it takes the brain this long to assimilate all that it needs to know to achieve true mastery."
